Sustainable Biomes: Impacts of Feeding the World Task Cards
Sustainable Biomes Impacts of Feeding the World Task Cards activity for Year 9 students studying geography is an engaging small group activity. It will students to explore how too much food and too few food options are both important issues. Students will examine examples of food items that are often thrown away. They will also research sustainable food and research ways in which we can sustainably produce our food for future generations.
This resource complements the Sustainable Biomes Unit of Work Bundle. This unit of work for Year 9 is complete with a 10-week teaching program, assessment schedule and marking rubrics. The bundle also includes engaging learning activities and PowerPoint presentation.

HOW CAN YOU USE THE FEEDING THE WORLD TASK CARDS?
Print off the tasks cards and laminate. You will also need to print off enough activity sheets for each student.
Place task cards around the classroom. You will need to provide an iPad for one task so students can complete the activity.
Hand out activity sheets to students and have them trim and stick them in their books. Break students into small groups.
You will need to collect:
- 2-3 pieces of misshapen fruits or vegetables
- Empty restaurant take-out containers
- 2-3 packaged food items with ‘expired’ used-by dates
- Examples of processed and packaged convenience store food items (like chips, lollies and chocolate bars, soft drink etc.)
